![]() ![]() Being a woman we would expect Desdemona to be a character that cries over the hardships she is dealt with. Besides Othello, Rodrigo and Iago some of the chief characters of this tragedy include Barbantio, Cassio, Emilia and Desdemona. With an Italian backdrop, the tragedy centers on Othello and the plans of the villains Rodrigo and Iago as they conspire to get what they want. Othello, The Moor of Venice is a 17 th century tragedy by William Shakespeare. Her decisions are guided by her ability to confront fear as she continues to hold strong in her faith, expecting good and loving selflessly. We see her in her brightest every time she makes an appearance and appears an example of prudence and justice. Then Bianca shows up and give Cassio Othello's hankerchief back to Cassio.Desdemona, a character of the 17 th Century tragedy “Othello”, comes across as a Symbol of Christian virtues and values. Othello sees Desdemona as an adulterer when Iago shows proof of Cassio has his mothers hankerchief, in Act 4, Scene 1, Iago confronts Cassio about his time with Bianca while Othello is hidden, and thinks Cassio is talking about Desdemona. It is engendered! Hell and night Must bring this monstrous birth to the world’s light. The Moor is of a free and open nature That thinks men honest that but seem to be so, And will as tenderly be led by th' nose As asses are. Seek thou rather to be hanged in compassing thy joy than to be drowned and go without her. A pox of drowning thyself! 'Tis clean out of the way. If sanctimony and a frail vow betwixt an erring barbarian and supersubtle Venetian be not too hard for my wits and all the tribe of hell, thou shalt enjoy her. If thou wilt needs damn thyself, do it a more delicate way than drowning. When she is sated with his body she will find the errors of her choice. Seeming/ Being: Many people see Desdemona as a pure and innocent wife of the General Othello.Įmilia sees Desdemona as a young and naive girl. Reputation: Desdemona is a loving and faithful wife to her husband, and does whatever her husband commands, throughout the whole story. Oh, these men, these men! Dost thou in conscience think-tell me, Emilia- That there be women do abuse their husbands In such gross kind?(Othello) " Women: Desdemona see all women obediante to their husbands and believes that they will never cheat of them, in Act 4, Scene 3, Desdemona says to Emilia, "I have heard it said so.
